Freedom isn't free...

A heart-tugging poem by Kelly Strong, most fitting for this Memorial Day!

Memorial Day...

With the Memorial Day weekend fast approaching, thought I'd make a quick post before activities are fully underway. I hope you have the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, but most of all, I hope you take the time to remember those who have made our freedom possible.

Our nation is truly blessed!

Beautiful Flora Memories...

What a pleasant surprise when I spotted this Calla Lily blooming on my patio. You see, this Calla Lily holds very special memories. It was used in the church at my daughter's 2009 June wedding.

Each year since then, the plant re-emerges each spring along with all the beautiful memories of that special day.

...simply, beautiful!

Bye Bye Birdie...

I took a few quick photos of our Mockingbird family yesterday...which turned out to be good timing as it appears today they've left the nest! The pictures aren't the greatest, but I didn't want to get too close...poor mom and dad were under enough stress keeping those babies fed and chasing off other birds. Nesting is slower this year at our house...think we had a total of five nests last spring between the front and backyards (all Mockingbirds)...those are some busy birds!

Watchful parent...

I hope you've had a restful weekend in preparation for the challenges of the week ahead!
Until next time...

Are you a worrier?....

I admit, I'm a worrier. Although, I think it's fair to say as I've gotten older I do less worrying...hmmmm, this could be in direct relation to my kiddos no longer being teenagers ;))). All kidding aside, I still find myself worrying more than I should. I recently found this quote and it instantly became a favorite. If you know anything about Corrie Ten Boom you know if anyone had reason to worry, it was this amazing women.

I'm giving serious consideration to tatooing the quote on my forehead (just kidding...I couldn't see it there anyway).

Hope your week's going well...until next time, to borrow from another famous quote,
"Don't worry, be happy!"

Mother's Day...no matter what!

My  mom lost her battle to ovarian cancer September 30, 2008. I am so proud of her courage and grace, not only in battling cancer, but in battling life. Like most, she experienced great joy and great sorrow while on this earth. She was one of the most giving and forgiving people I have ever encountered. I believe God placed her in the lives of those she touched throughout the years to serve as an example of love and kindness. And if ever there was a role she was made to fill, it was to be a "mom". In one of the last conversations I had with my mom, she said, "I'll think of you everyday, no matter what". I do the same mom, and I'm so very thankful for you!

Wishing all moms out there (especially my  "new mom" daughter)
a very Happy Mother's Day!
God's blessings this day, and always.

Garden Visitors...

A pair of lovely butterflies visited this morning (and a concerned little hummingbird "buzzed" me while I  snapped photos)...the flowerbed is a busy place this morning!
